Bio
EUGENA PILEK was born in Manhattan in 1970 and grew up in Cooperstown, New York. In 1988 she attended Wheaton College in Massachusetts. She spent a year studying at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and then graduated from Wheaton in 1992 with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature and a minor in Art History. After college she traveled extensively and lived in Prague, Czech Republic and Taipei, Taiwan where she taught English.
In 1994 she moved to Manhattan to start a publishing career as an associate book scout for Alison Bond, Ltd. As a scout she sought rights to works by North
American authors on behalf of international publishers and agents. In 1997 she founded International Literary Scouting and sought adaptation rights to books on
behalf of film and television companies. In 1999 she rejoined Alison Bond, Ltd. as a partner, and helped The Storyworks Company (LA) pioneer
Bookscouts.com, the first online scouting publication. For Storyworks she
reported on authors, film options, book awards and trends. In 2002 she became the books editor for Us Weekly, a position she held for three years during which time
she also became a book reviewer for The Washington Post's Media Mix.
In June 2003 Eugena's mock operetta, The Rape of the Lock based on Alexander Pope's poem, was performed at Dixon Place in Manhattan
as part of the Warning: Not for Broadway or the MET Either festival. She began writing her first novel, Cooperstown, in 2000 and it was
published by Simon & Schuster/Touchstone in July 2005.
Eugena lives in Brooklyn, NY with her family.
